UHEALTH SPORTS MEDICINE TEAMS UP WITH U.S. NATIONAL WOMEN’S BOBSLED TEAM MEMBER LAURYN WILLIAMS
Rockville, MD, December 13, 2013 – UHealth Sports Medicine, part of the University of Miami Health System is pleased to announce its sponsorship of Three-Time Track and Field Olympian and U.S. National Women’s Bobsled Team member, Lauryn Williams.
As a Silver and Gold medalist at the 2004 and 2012 Summer Olympic Games, a World Champion and NCAA Champion, Lauryn Williams is no stranger to competition and knows the hard work, dedication, effort and teamwork that goes into winning. Weeks after retiring from Track and Field earlier this year, Lauryn decided to try her hand at bobsledding. With less than one week of practice and one training session under her belt, Williams finished third in the National Push Championships and secured her position as a member of the U.S. National Women’s Bobsled Team. Recently, Lauryn won her first bobsled medal, capturing a silver medal at the World Cup Race in Park City, UT.
As Lauryn vies for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team and an opportunity to once again compete on the world stage, at the 2014 Winter Olympic games in Sochi, Russia, she knows that if her Olympic dreams are to come true again, she’ll need the support of her fans, friends, family and an exemplary medical team such as UHealth Sports Medicine, led by Lee Kaplan, M.D., associate professor of orthopaedics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
Lauryn believes that, “Every athlete knows just how important it is to have a great team behind you. When you compete on the world’s biggest stage, you have to seek out every legal competitive advantage you can to maximize results. From personal experience, I know that teaming up with UHealth will ensure that my body is in the best shape possible to give me that edge.” Lauryn also went on to say, “As a former UM Student-Athlete, I have been working with Dr. Kaplan and the UHealth Sports Medicine team for quite a while, and their techniques have always kept me in the game. For these reasons, the decision to add UHealth to #TeamLauryn was an easy one and I’m excited about our partnership.”
Williams is currently preparing for this weekend’s upcoming World Cup Bobsled Race in Lake Placid, NY. She will then embark upon the international World Cup Bobsled Race circuit, which will take her to Germany, Switzerland and Austria in January. The 2014 Winter Olympics Bobsled team will be announced on January 19, 2014. For more information on Williams, please visit her website at www.lauryn-williams.com
