Clinical Areas

Dr.  Takita's main clinical interests are in breast cancer patients. She is actively involved with the use of radiation in breast cancer treatments with conventional external beam radiation, IMRT and the newer techniques of Partial Breast Radiation. She is currently studying the use of MRI-guided delivery system to spare heart/lung during radiation treatment for patients with breast cancer. She actively participates in clinical trials which are open through the UM Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is the Co-Leader of the Breast Site Disease Group at UM/ Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Research Interests

Dr. Takita's research interests include breast cancer treatment using new MRI-guided delivery system, evaluation of predictors of locoregional recurrence and metastases, development of novel predictor models of radiation therapy outcomes and potential treatments to reduce radiation-induced skin toxicity.

After completing her medical degree and a residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Dr. Takita moved to US with her family. She successfully completed a Radiation Oncology Residency at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University in St. Louis, one of the top 5 residency training in radiation. Dr. Takita is a board certified Radiation Oncologist by the American Board of Radiology. She actively participates in the clinical research at the UM, and is a Principal Investigator in several studies open through the Cancer Center. She is a member of several national organizations, such as American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, American College of Radiology, American Society of Clinical Oncology. She was given the UM/Sylvester Service Excellence Award in 2002 for providing outstanding customer service. Dr. Takita main subspecialty is in breast radiation oncology. She has being nominated Co-Leader of the Breast Site Disease Group at the UM/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. She is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. Dr. Takita is married to Dr. Alves, a hematologist/oncologist and has two lovely sons, Andre and Luca.
