Yousuf entered the program in the Fall 2006 semester and was a graduate student in Dr. Grace Zhai’s lab. He successfully defended his is thesis project in late August 2011 which was entitled: Mechanisms Of Neuroprotection Mediated By Nicotinamide Mononucleotide Adenylyl Transferase (NMNAT).  Yousuf is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Dr. Virginia Lee at the University of Pennsylvania.

Papia is currently a Postdoc at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine.  She entered the program in the Fall 2002 semester and as a member of the Fontoura lab, Papia studied the down regulation of Nup96 and its role in mitosis as well as the up regulation of Nup107 during mitosis.

Audrey is currently working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Physiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas (Stull Lab). As a member of Dr. James Potter's Lab, she defended her thesis entitled: Functional And Structural Effects Of Cardiomyopathy Associated Mutations In A-Tropomyosin.

Bo Chen

Bo is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Science and of Neurobiology at the Yale School of Medicine.  He entered the MCP Program in 1998 and was a student of the Bixby Lab.  Bo’s thesis project was titled: NPCD (neuronal pentraxin with chromo domain): a new class of tyrosine phosphatase-interacting protein that is required for NGF-induced neuronal process outgrowth.

Ines Chopra completed her PhD requirements on February 6, 2012. As a student in Dr. Keith Webster’s lab, she studied the “Molecular mechanisms of Ampk- and Akt-dependent survival of glucose-starved cardiac myocytes”.  She is continuing her post-doctoral studies at the University of Pennsylvania with Dr. Edward Lee and is studying the relationship between leptin signaling in obesity and neurodegenerative diseases.

Paula was a student in the laboratory of Dr. Beatriz Fontoura and her thesis defense was entitled: MRNA nuclear export pathway disrupted by the vesicular stomatitis virus. Paula is currently a Research Associate/Instructor at Nova Southeastern University.

Omar Flores

Omar entered the program in the Fall 2004 semester and was a graduate student in the Burnstein Lab.  His thesis project involved the study of Vitamin D regulation of cell cycle.  Omar is currently a postdoctoral trainee at Duke University (Cullen Lab).

Donna Frazier

Donna joined the program in August 2001 and was a student in the Webster lab.   Her research entailed studying the pathways of cardiac myocytes apoptosis induced by hypoxia-acidosis and hypoxia-reoxygenation.

Alexandra trained in Dr. Gennaro D'Urso's lab and her thesis entailed identifying and characterizing the replication initiation defective mutants (rid) in Schizosaccharomyces pombe.

Leah received her scientific training in the Burnstein lab and researched “Vav3, a Rho GTPase Guanine Nucleotide Exchange Factor, Enhances Androgen Receptor Transcriptional Activity through Ligand-Dependent and –Independent Mechanisms in Prostate Cancer Cells. Leah is currently a College of Medical Sciences Faculty member at Nova Southeastern University.

Karla Mihalak

Karla was a member of the Luetje lab and her research focused on the structure and dynamics of the zinc potentiation site of neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. After obtaining a PhRMA Postdoctoral Fellowship, Karla chose to continue her research in the Magelby lab in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics.

Michelle Parvatiyar

Michelle is currently a Postdoctoral Scholar at UCLA (Vondriska Lab).  As a member of Dr. James Potter’s lab, her doctoral work involved understanding how cardiomyopathic mutations alter the structure of cardiac troponin C and how these perturbations contribute to the development of myofilament dysfunction seen in Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Jacque entered the program in the Fall 2006 semester and was a student in Dr. Joy Lincoln’s lab.  Her thesis project identified the Role of Sox9 in Heart Valve Development and Disease.  Jacque is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Laboratory of Musculoskeletal Oncology at the Van Andel Research Institute.

Adena is currently a Pediatrics Medical Resident at UCSF.  She is an MD/PhD graduate who completed her doctoral degree in the Burnstein lab researching the regulation of androgen receptor activity: a potential mechanism of action of arsenic trioxide treatment in prostate cancer.

Derek Rosenzweig

Derek is currently a postdoctoral scholar at McGill University. He entered the program in the Fall 2002 semester and his research while in Dr. Joy Lincoln’s lab used mouse models and molecular techniques to identify signaling pathways required for heart valve progenitor cell fate.

Simone Sandiford

Simone is currently a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Molecular Microbiology & Immunology at John Hopkins University.  She joined the program in the Fall 2002 semester and her research in Dr. Slepak’s lab involved the interaction of the gβ5-rgs7 complex with the muscarinic acetylcholine m3 receptor.

Kristopher Sarosiek

Kris was a member of Dr. Izidore Lossos' lab and studied new therapies for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma including Interleukin-21 and Anti-Bcl-2-scFv-TAT. He is currently a postdoc at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard University and his research contributes to the overall research goals of the Letai Lab which is to better understand how cells decide to make the commitment to apoptosis.

Weiwen Wang

Weiwen Wang successfully defended her doctoral degree on February 10, 2012.  As a student of the Webster lab, she studied the differential role of JNK-1 in the regulation of myocardial infarction through survival kinases Akt and Erk.  Weiwen has joined the lab of Dr. Ping Wang at the University of California, Irvine for her postdoc position.

Zhengying (Cherry) Wang

Cherry was a member of the Burnstein lab and studied how Vitamin D3 inhibits cancer cell proliferation through nuclear exclusion and decreased activity of cyclin-dependent kinase 2. She is currently a Research Associate with Bascom Palmer/Center for Molecular Ophthalmology & Neuroscience at the University of Miami.

Amber Wilson

As a member of Dr. Keith Webster’s lab, Amber research entailed determining the effect of aging on bone-marrow derived mesenchymal stem cell cardiac and angiogenic plasticity potential.  She is currently studying patent law at John Marshall Law School.

Eddy Yang

Eddy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology Oncology at the University of AL, Birmingham.  As an MD/PhD student in the Burnstein lab, Eddy's thesis project involved researching the vitamin D-mediated regulation of prostate cancer cell cycle.
